12 December 2012
After a long struggle to get the internet working on my computer, I finally submitted and used an ethernet cable. Then I put in more work on my thesis presentation - I got some pictures off the internet to use and I began to flesh out my outline a bit. It'll be good to have this thing over with.
10 December 2012 (late post)
I looked over the thesis presentation guidelines and began outlining my presentation (I go on Friday). Some of the stuff I can take from my first presentation, but of course this one will be much more in-depth. I also put some work in on essays for my last few apps.

On top of making revisions to my UPenn essay, I began reading a research paper entitled "Stellar Nucleosynthesis in the Hyades Open Cluster." A lot of my project is going to involve just reading up on the subject in papers like this one.

30 November 2012
I have submitted my applications for USC, Northeastern, and Vanderbilt, and I also worked on my UPenn essay today. The only things I have left are the essays for UPenn, Stanford, Conell, and Harvard. It's a good deal of work but I have all of December to finish it all.

19 November 2012
Kept working on UC. I want to have it in well before the deadline, since UC is notorious for its site crashing during the days just before deadlines. Hopefully I can have it all done within another week.

I am trying to adapt my Common App essay to fit one of the UC essay prompts, and I'm working on a topic for the other one. I also completed all the "Future Plans" sections for all my Common App schools.

1 November 2012
I finalized my USC supplement and as soon as my recommendations are in I can submit it. I also revised the the intro to my UPenn essay and outlined much of what I want to write for the rest of it. Finally, I just found out today that the UC deadline is Nov. 30, so I will begin to focus my attention on that app.

21 September 2012
Early release today, so only a 45 minute class. I downloaded a research paper by Burbage, Burbage, Fowler, and Hoyle entitled Synthesis of the Elements in Stars and read some of it. But it's 108 pages long so it might take a while.

I spent this class looking at more colleges as well as application supplements for a few. I also used their essay topics as inspiration for a common app essay, and I am going to write an outline for my paper tonight.
Thursday, September 13, 2012
13 September 2012
I spent essentially all class period thinking about new topics for my Common App essay. I'm really having trouble coming up with something good. However, I made a list of possible topics and I tried free-writing (just writing down whatever comes to mind) for 15 or so minutes at a time. I think with a little more work and focus I'll come up with something good. I guess I need to start thinking about my thesis topics a bit more too, so I have something good to present.

11 September 2012
I have been talking with Ms Maner about my recommendation, and sent her my resumé today. I also began to sort my college list into Reach, 50-50, and Safety schools and will go over this further with my parents. I began my NMSC application and updated some Common App info.

7 September 2012
I updated much of my Common App info, and made an ApplyTexas account. I then went on collegeprowler and researched USC, Stanford, and Brown. USC seems like a pretty nice school, and obviously you can't beat Stanford. Didn't really find Brown very interesting.
5 September 2012 (late post)
I wrote an email to Mrs. Maner asking if she would write me a recommendation. I had discussed this with her before the summer. Then I went to collegeprowler.com and researched Columbia, Berkeley, Tulane, and UT.

However, once I was up & running I went to both cappex.com and collegeprowler.com and made accounts, and finally I put in some work on my senior survey, which I will complete and send by next class.

first post!
So as of now my thesis project involves investigating the way heavy elements are created via fusion in the cores of stars. No real work on finding a mentor or anything yet, and I'm also kind of considering switching to something more philosophy-related. Additionally, I've spent some of the summer writing and revising my common app essays and touring schools.
